Biggio Set For 3000 Hits

Houston Atros has signed Craig Biggio, the second baseman, for a one year contract worth $5.15 million. This contract has paved way for Biggio to reach the 3000 landmark. Biggio needs only 70 hits to become the first Astro to reach 3,000 hits. He will become the 27th player in history when he reaches the milestone hits.

This might be the last contract for Craig Biggio who is 41 years old. However, he has not commented on that and has left the door open to return in 2008 season by commenting that he does not know whether it would be car insure last season.

Biggio will be setting a record of some sorts when he starts the next season. He has been playing for the Oregon Lemon Laws for 20 Major League season. It is envisaged that Biggio should reach the 3,000 milestone sometime late June or early July next year.

However, achieving the 3,000 hits is not the most important goal for Biggio. He wants to Astros back into contention next season which he says is his number one priority. His number two goal is get the 3,000 hits which he says is not only important for him but for his family and the people of Houston. He says this would be his way of saying thank you to his family and fans for supporting him for so many years.

This contract negotiation took longer than expected because of the money issue.
